Kevin Allen-Schmid

Kevin Allen-Schmid, Music Director

Kevin directs the Chalice Choir and Phoenix Ensemble, and also co-ordinates and performs music for Sunday services. He holds a Masters in Choral Conducting from Central Washington and a Bachelors of Music Education from Pacific Lutheran.  Kevin directed the acclaimed choral program at Flathead High School in Montana for twenty years, and has taught music in international schools in Malaysia, Germany, Spain and Tanzania. 

Melanie Rieck, Keyboard Artist/Choir Assistant

Melanie has served BUF for many years as staff keyboard artist, choir assistant and accompanist. She has two degrees in music from the University of Washington, as well as a law degree and part of an MBA. Her passions in life are teaching piano, performing at BUF, singing, composing, sound healing, and gardening. For ten years, Melanie acted as the Worship and Music Coordinator for BUF's summer services.

Andrea Rackl, Keyboard Artist II

Creating music at the piano has been a life-long passion for Andrea Rackl.  She has been teaching privately for over 25 years, mentoring the love of music and creativity.  She is an active composer, improvisor, arranger, and concert artist, performing with the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra and in solo and duo concerts throughout the region.  Andrea also takes great pleasure in her other roles as mother, daughter, gardener, and hiker.

Karen FitzGerald, Women's Ensemble Director

Karen has enjoyed a lifetime of choir singing, including the Oberlin College Choir and Seattle Pro Musica. She currently sings with Bellingham Chamber Chorale and her women's quartet, Calyx. Karen directed the choir at the Abundant Living Center (now the Center for Spiritual Living) in the 1990's, and was co-director and accompanist of the Kulshan Chorus for ten years. She also composes and records music for solo piano.
